Grandin Village Annual Block Party: Sunday, May 20th 2pm-4:30pm

Save the Date!

Sunday, May 20th
Annual Grandin Village Block Party
2 pm - 4:30pm

Meet your neighbors and enjoy family fun free events throughout the day!

Grandin Road will be closed to traffic between Memorial Avenue and Westover Avenue to allow for the street faire.  This annual gathering provides an opportunity for neighbors to meet and enjoy free family fun, music and activities.

Please join us for an afternoon filled with food and friends. Events include live entertainment, children’s activities, and the annual favorite – free hotdogs donated by Valleydale and dessert made by the Raleigh Court Health and Rehabiliation Center bakers!

For kids, there will be the Jimmy Sardines Moon Bounce and face painting by Grandin Village artist Katherine Devine.  They can climb on a real fire truck from Fire Station #7, create their own sidewalk art and twist ‘n shout with a Hula Hoop.  A juggler and magician will keep children of all ages entertained.  Kids are encouraged to decorate and ride their bikes.  They can display them in the alleyway next to the Roanoke Natural Foods Co-op.

This annual event is part of Roanoke City’s Neighborhood Month, a celebration of unity and neighborhood pride. During the month of May, neighborhood groups sponsor events to come together as one community and celebrate our neighborhoods.

ENVISION this space!

from 'The $torefront' with Amanda Codispoti:

It has been some time since a business has lived inside the old CVS building at 1327 Grandin Road.

Viva La Cupcake, Coda coffee shop, West Pharmacy, Valley Bank and Village Flowers were among the most recent tenants to depart.

The building’s owner, Ed Walker, is ready to take a different approach to lease the space. He’s asked Roanoker Brent Cochran to use a technique called crowdsourced placemaking to come up with creative uses for the 10,000 square foot building.

It works like this: Submit your ideas for the building on envisionroanoke.com (you’ll have to register before submitting). There, you’ll also find other ideas for the building and vote for them. Any idea that gets more than 50 votes will be discussed at a meeting where attendees identify steps to implement the idea.

You can also submit an idea at a suggestion box near the entrances of Rockfish and CUPS Coffee and Tea.

The process, Cochran said, creates excitement and buy-in from the community. He also hopes the ideas will identify community needs, whether it be an adult daycare center, a wellness center, or retail space.

Grandin Village Holiday Children's Parade Saturday, November 19th 11am

The Grandin Village Business Association is sponsoring the Annual Grandin Village Holiday Children's Parade
Saturday November 19th at 11:00 am
.

The parade starts at Christ Lutheran Church (2011 Brandon Ave) on the corner of Grandin Road & Brandon Avenue and proceeds through Historic Grandin Village, ending at Mick or Mack (1312 Winborne St.). Held the Saturday before Thanksgiving each year, this is a neighborhood favorite and includes Santa on a Fire Engine and much more.

No registration is required to participate and children of all ages are welcome. If you'd like to enter a float, come to the parking lot of Christ Lutheran Church between 10:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. As this is a children's parade, only small floats will be allowed (wagons, etc). No motorized vehicles, please. Scout groups, dance groups and baton twirlers are encouraged to participate as well. If music is needed for this type of group, then a motorized vehicle will be allowed for that purpose.

Boy Scout Troop 8 will be collecting canned goods for charity so please bring a donation.
